This breed is exceptional and naturally privileged, and today it is only found in the southwest of the Iberian Peninsula. The Alentejana breed is descended from the "Sus mediterraneus" (southern wild boar), deriving from the Iberian or Romanesque stock. Due to its genetics and lack of crossbreeding with other breeds, it has a greater capacity for intramuscular fat infiltration.
