Amália 100-Year-Old Tawny Port Wine

75 CL
Description

A quality Tawny Port wine that pays homage to the 100th anniversary of the famous Fado singer, Amália Rodrigues (1920-1999).

Until around 1756, the production of "shipping wines," as Port wines were then called, followed the so-called "old process" of winemaking. The addition of fortification, always in small volumes, only occurred after fermentation was complete, thus obtaining dry wines.

In 1820, the modern fortification process emerged, which halted alcoholic fermentation, resulting in sweet wines. This production process only became widespread in 1852, when Port wines began to resemble those of today.

Therefore, Port wine is a fortified wine, produced in the Douro Demarcated Region, under peculiar conditions derived from natural and human factors. The production process, based on tradition, includes stopping the fermentation of the must by adding wine brandy, blending wines, and subsequent aging.

Port wines are divided into different categories depending on the type of aging, ranging from Ruby, Tawny, White, and Rosé styles.
