Aware of the enormous potential of the Cantanhede lands for the production of superior quality wines, in 1954 a group of 100 farmers founded the Cantanhede Cooperative Winery.

Currently boasting around 700 active associated winegrowers and an average annual production of 6 to 7 million kilograms of grapes, this winery is the leading producer in the Bairrada Demarcated Region, representing 30 to 40% of the region's total production and certifying approximately 80% of its production. It is a prominent leader in sales of DOC Bairrada and IG Beira Atlântico wines.
