Anise or sweet fennel (Pimpinella anisum) is a plant of the Apiaceae family, formerly called Umbelliferae. Its seed-shaped fruit is used in confectionery and in liqueurs (such as anisette, zammù, ouzo). The fruit consists of two united pistils and has a strong aromatic flavor and a powerful odor.
