Amália 100-Year-Old Tawny Port Wine

Description

Until around 1756, the production of "shipping wines," as Port wines were then known, followed the so-called "old process" of winemaking. The fortification, always in small quantities, only took place after fermentation was complete, thus producing dry wines.
In 1820, the modern fortification process emerged, which halted alcoholic fermentation, resulting in sweet wines. This production process only became widespread in 1852, when Port wines began to resemble those of today.
Port wine is a fortified wine produced in the Douro Demarcated Region under unique conditions stemming from both natural and human factors. The traditional production process involves stopping the fermentation of the must by adding grape brandy, blending the wines, and then aging.
Port wines are divided into different categories depending on the type of aging, ranging from Ruby, Tawny, White and Rosé styles.
